Ernst Herbeck (October 9, 1920, Stockerau, Lower Austria – September 11, 1991) was a German poet. In 1940, at the age of 20, Herbeck was committed to the national mental hospital in Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) where he spent almost his entire life, writing thousands of poems, until his death on 11 September 1991.

Upon finishing high school, he began his mandatory military service on the front in 1943 and was held captive in an American war prison, from which he was released in 1946. In 1950 Jandl wrote his doctoral thesis on the short stories of Arthur Schnitzler.
